Imagine gathering on the deck, or around the fire-pit, listening to loons and other sounds of nature. You could spend several days getting to know Lake Vermillion - its 40,000 acres of water, 365 islands and 1200 miles of shoreline. It offers some of Minnesotas best fishing, and talk about a new fishing experience every day.
We already know you love the MN outdoors; with this much water and this many islands, you will find lots of designated shore lunch spots on the lake. We bet you can smell the fish frying right now: Walleye, Northern, Large and Smallmouth Bass, Musky, Crappie, Bluegill, Perch. You will feel as if you have the lake to yourself. A deeper adventure is waiting in the dozen nearby Minnesota lakes that you can portage to. If you need to rent canoes, boats, or other watercraft - area resorts and marinas will take care of you. Lake Vermilion in the Winter is magical. Ice-fishing, snowmobiling, skiing, and dogsledding. There are plenty of Lake Vermilion cabin fireplaces to gather around after a day on the lake, or on the ski and snowmobile trails.
In addition to the many Minnesota lakes are plenty of unique land activities. About 1/2 hour from Lake Vermilion is Minnesotas designated state recreation area for off-highway vehicles (OHV) and all-terrain vehicles (ATV): The 1200 acre Iron Range OHV Recreation Area. It has scramble areas, hill climbs, obstacles and challenge courses. The Black Bay Peninsula Hiking Trail is great for hiking and biking - we also recommend picking up a day permit for hiking in the BWCAW. If a scenic road trip in a car is your speed, make sure you explore the Superior National Forest Scenic Byway. Chances are someone in your vacation group is going to want to sneak in a round of golf. There are over 160 holes of golf within a 45 minute drive of Lake Vermilion.
