Cabin 22 at the scenic White Iron Beach Resort in Ely, Minn., is a traditional log cabin with a green metal roof and a wraparound covered porch. This upscale log home is perched on the cliffs above White Iron Lake to offer the best view in all directions. The lot is open and sunny, with lush grass, careful landscaping and a few tall trees. The view of the water and the surrounding hills is unobstructed from the porch and lake-facing windows. Newly renovated in 2009, this large Minnesota cabin features an expanded living area with a full modern kitchen and a comfortable sitting room.
As a part of White Iron Beach Resort, Cabin 22 offers guests exclusive access to shared amenities such as a sandy beach area, volleyball and basketball courts and a children’s playground. Originally founded in 1917, the resort is a family vacation destination with a rich history of its own and an integral part of the touristing business in Ely. Operating still as a secluded wilderness resort, White Iron Beach enjoys a beautiful, hidden lookout point on the chain of five lakes that serves as an entrance to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, which is one of the last truly untouched expanses of land in the area. White Iron Beach Resort invites you to be a part of its history and looks forward to being a part of yours.
Sleeping arrangements: Cabin 22 is equipped with three queen-sized beds, two twin-sized beds and a set of bunk beds with twin-sized mattresses.
Cabin 22 has a setting and vacation atmosphere all its own, combining the sturdy, rustic construction of a cabin in the woods with the cliff-hugging scaffolding of a fisherman’s cottage. In the end, what you are left with is the best of both worlds — a cozy living space and a killer view. Cabin 22 also has the unique ability to convert from a three-bedroom to a four-bedroom house during the months of July and August. Guests will need to communicate their preferences to the resort owners during the booking process.
Perhaps the cottage’s most visually stunning feature is the wraparound porch — complete with seasonal hanging flower baskets — offering a 360-degree view of the great outdoors and a comfortable place to sit and enjoy the country air where you can enjoy both the sunrises and sunsets.
The White Iron Beach Resort offers guests direct access to excellent lake fishing. The area is known to produce impressive walleye, crappie, bass and northern pike, among others. Guests can visit the resort webpage ahead of time to get an idea of the seasons and what will likely be biting during their stay.
The wider community of Ely has slowly developed as a top wilderness tourist destination over the past century, with its natural scenery and a rich history in fur trading and mining. Visitors may also enjoy learning more about the region’s indigenous Ojibwe culture. White Iron Lake connects to five other bodies of water that extends into the Boundary Waters. This protected land is famous for its untouched beauty, from dense forested land and deep, clear water to small islands and rock formations.
Things to Remember: Guests will need to bring their own bath towels and dish towels. Bed linens are provided.

The pontoon boat rental was reasonably priced and we were able to catch some nice fish from it. The owners were available throughout our stay and were more than accommodating. I didn't walk the grounds much, but it seemed that most(if not all) the cabins were within 75 yards of the water. I would highly recommended WIBR to anyone looking for a great place to escape near Ely. Jeremy Grev
One of a kind location for a wedding. I highly recommend White Iron Beach Resort for their beautiful setting, lovely staff and laid back atmosphere. This place is an authentic North Woods experience! Micca Leider
Nice place. Grandkids especially like the sandy beach area with all the toys and the playground. We like the fact that they have so many different size cabins! Carol Lindroos
We had the BEST time. First visit to northern Minnesota for my grandkids
and son in law, they loved it all. The last night of our visit we went to the beach and looked a sky full of stars. We loved that the kids could borrow games, shoot pool, and listen to music by the campfire. Cabin was great for our large family, the resort owners were very nice, and very helpful. We really enjoyed our stay. Dawn Hebl Manning
It is a wonderful family run resort. Comfortable cabins of varying size, good fishing, playground, sandy beach. And Ely so close is fantastic. Teri Heyer

We are fortunate to own one of the cabins (#22) at Ely Minnesota’s Oldest Wilderness Resort. White Iron Beach Resort was founded in 1917, making it one of the region’s earliest wilderness resorts. Even then, the small community of Ely was becoming a tourist destination. With a history rich in Ojibwe Indian culture, fur trading and iron ore mining, not to mention the natural beauty of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, makes Ely a fun and fascinating community. White Iron Lake is part of a five-lake chain that extends into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness!
