Ready for a change? You'll be welcomed by vaulted knotty pine ceilings, a 1000 square feet of cozy cottage, and sparkling Lake Miltona. Doane Cottage is just 15 yards from the lake, where the 100 feet of shoreline is the place to be on a warm summer day.
At 5,800 acres, Lake Miltona is the largest lake in the Alexandria area-a premier fishing lake for muskies, walleye, bass, northerns, sunfish, and more.
The well-stocked kitchen includes a full sized stove and refrigerator, microwave, crock pot, coffeemaker, electric tea kettle, toaster, mixer, wafflemaker, pots, pans, dishes, and utensils. Take the meal prep outside, using the gas grill. The kitchen has a small table and a snack bar.
Sleeping arrangements: 2 bedrooms, each with a pilllowtop queen-sized bed. Bedrooms have hardwood floors, and closets with shelves. On request, the private lakeside sunroom can be supplied with cots and mattresses for 2 for additional guests.
The sunroom is a great place to relax and snack! Wicker furniture from Pier One, ceiling fan, a hanging Swing-a-San chair, and optional folding table. Gather in the living room (with couch, loveseat, lazyboy) and watch a movie on Netflix or the big game on on TV. DVD player and unlimited internet also included.
Other cottage features include a deck, outdoor dining table overlooking the lake, level lawn to Lake Miltona (no steps to the lake here), and small attached garage (great for unloading gear and coolers). Situated in a quiet dead end road, you are sure to appreciate the calm and tranquility.
Life at Lake Miltona can't be beat! Have a fish fry, and then view the stars, moon, and clouds during an evening bonfire. Bring your boat and dock it in front of your home-away-from-home. Our calm bay lets your dock your boat without a lift, a real time saver. Fisherman love the electricity at the dock and the concrete boat launch nearby. Out on the lake, drop anchor at a sand bar for a swim. The water fun never ends for our guests: Rental includes two ocean kayaks, 2 Old Town Kayaks, a paddleboat, life preservers, and inflatables in season. Watch it all from the bench at the end of the dock.
You can rent during winter! Go ice fishing, snowmobile the miles of trails, attend a Blizzard Hockey game, or just curl up and watch the snow fall.
Mix in some adventure: Live music at Carlos Creek Winery; plays at Andria Theatre; movies lounging in recliner seats at Cinema 9; Fat Daddy's Grill and bowling alley; pizza places and romantic restaurants like Interlachen Inn and Bella Cucina, spa services. Bugaboo Bay Carribean flavors and Tennessee Roadhouse ribs. From the lake sandbars to the golf sand traps - there are eight golf courses in the area so bring the clubs. Day trips can take you to the paved 55 mile long Central Lakes Bike Trail which runs through Alex and the surrounding lake areas and villages. Jake's Bikes will rent!

We enjoyed our stay. Jane was a wonderful host and we had several things available for our use. Grilling and a fire pit, and fishing from the dock was fun. We didn't spend a lot of time in the water as the weather was a bit cool but there are kayaks and paddleboats there to use.. Tom B.
My brother and I came up for a long weekend of fishing in the fall and we could not have been happier with the accommodations and hospitality provided by the owners. Everything was very well organized and very clean. The area is a nature lover's dream. If you are a boater, you will appreciate the protected bay the cabin and its dock is located in as sometimes the lake can be windy. Overall, a wonderful experience and we will definitely be back.
Everything exceeded expectation. Nice lake side property that was very clean and well taken care of. In a nice bay area of the lake that is well protected from the wind which was great for us......put our boat in the water on the day of arrival and did not take it back out until the day we left. Organized and very friendly owners made for a great trip. Michael R

Jane and Tom purchased the cottage in 2012, and have enjoyed sharing the fun with renting guests since that time. Tom works in medical imaging, and Jane works in education.. Married 29 years, we make our home in Ham Lake, MN, and are proud parents of 3 adult daughters. Jane is originally from a farm north of the Alexandria area.We love time spent at the lake, the outdoors, biking, reading, and anything that has to do with family.
