Here are some of the special sounds of the wilderness you'll experience on this remote themed vacation: Freshly-caught fish sizzling in the fry pan; the crackle of an evening campfire; the eerie wail of a loon; the breeze through dense pine forests.
Vermilion is a cozy lakeview cabin, in the process of a full kitchen remodel. It comes with a picnic table, Weber grill, BBQ utensils, and patio furniture so you can maximize outside time. Partially shaded so you can enjoy the summer sun and cool off in the shade.
What will you see? Right out the front door is Big Lake’s 1,800 acres of water, 14 islands, and numerous inlets and bays.; fish in the boat - Big Lake has a reputation for giving up some trophy fish, walleye, yellow perch, pike and smallmouth bass. We have free kayaks, canoes, paddleboat for our guests.

Unique Features
Big Lake Wilderness Lodge Resort Cabin has a well-stocked kitchen with a gas stove and oven, microwave, drip coffeemaker, toaster, refrigerator/freezer, and plenty of dinnerware and cookware. Our 15 well-spaced cabin resort is on the scenic Echo Trail and is surrounded by the Superior National Forest with its abundant wildlife and numerous hiking trails.
Welcome to the virtual gateway to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, the BWCAW. Since you book directly with us, we can help you plan an outfitted overnight BWCA canoe trip. Show your kids how Nature is significantly more important than any tech device. You can experience BWCAW on Big Lake too: A campsite located on the west side of the lake is within the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.
Things To Do
The hiking: Top on the “locals list” is Angleworm Trail: 14 miles, with 11 miles forming a loop around Angleworm, Home and Whiskey Jack lakes. Bass Lake Trail: 5.6 miles around Bass Lake though a ridge of glacial gravel and a gorge over 250 feet wide.
The boating and canoeing: Bring your boat or use the free boat/motor package included. No motor-size restrictions and a public boat ramp access is nearby. Your family-oriented summer getaway will include lots of time on and in the water.
The sightseeing: Even the slow drive in might reveal a big moose. We're the most remote drive-in resort in northern Minnesota. Birds are prevalent! There are approximately 155 species of birds breed in the Superior forest (100 small and inconspicuous song birds).

If your cancellation notice is received less than 60 days in advance of arrival, refunds minus a $150 service fee will be made ONLY IF the cabin is rented to another party for the entire time of the original reservation.
