What make our Call of the Loon Cabin special? It is lakeside and has spectacular panoramic views of Big Lake. 1,800 acres of water, 14 islands, and numerous inlets and bays. Big Lake is a remote place of rugged beauty. Do more than look - get out there. Bring your boat or rent one of our fishing boats or a pontoon boat. A day on Big Lake with family and friends is what cabin time is all about at Minnesota's most remote drive-in resort. Call of the Loon is one of our private 15 cabins at Big Lake Wilderness Lodge.
Dine in. Prepare meals in the well-equipped kitchen with a gas stove and oven, microwave, drip coffeemaker, toaster, refrigerator/freezer, and plenty of dinnerware and cookware. Dine out. Prepare meals on the Weber grill using our BBQ utensils and eat outside on the picnic table or on the deck with patio furniture. Taste some local flavor and let others prepare your meals. Ask us about some nearby eating out options.
Satellite Tv
Sleeping arrangement: Double bed in bedroom #1, twin over double bed in bedroom #2. Double-sized sofa sleeper. Full bath with tub.
FREE Pontoon when you rent this cabin. You buy the gas.
Unique Features
Big Lake Wilderness Lodge is on the scenic Echo Trail, which winds from Ely, MN to Crane Lake, dense pine and birch forests. This is the fishing destination for serious anglers and bobber-fishing kids: Yellow perch and walleye dominate Big Lake. Northern pike, smallmouth bass, black crappie as also present.
Gather around the crackle and warm glow of an early evening campfire in the fire pit. From here you will hear the eerie wail of loons echoing across the water. This is the best time and place to fry up some freshly-caught walleye. Talk about the days adventures and make plans for tomorrow. Maybe visit the Dorothy Molter Museum, the International Wolf Center, or the North American Bear Center.
Things To Do
It’s hard to leave once you get here. We have plenty of activities and water to keep you busy. On site owners will help you with all of your fishing, hiking, and canoeing needs.
Area exploring! BWCA. This is your backyard for the next week: Scenic Echo Trail. Superior National Forest. Big Lake. What does your family like to do? Observe abundant wildlife; take to the hiking trails; take to the water trails on easy to moderate "canoe country” routes; do some serious walleye fishing on Big Lake (one of the DNR's highest rated fishing lakes in northern Minnesota) or other area lakes. You choose.
Things to remember: Beach towels, insect repellent, rain gear, and a compass pointed towards adventure.
