Campfire Bay Resort
Pinewood is a small unincorporated area in Beltrami County, Minnesota. Some local sources have estimated the population at 147, however that number cannot be confirmed. It is approximately 19 miles northwest of Bemidji, where most community services are available. The town of Pinewood was established in 1879, and had a station of the Soo Line Railroad. At its peak Pinewood also had a hotel, general store, mercantile store, sawmill, and livery stable.
When you plan your visit, plan to drive about 20 miles for food and groceries in nearby Bemidji, where you can get a drink at the 209 Bar, enjoy breakfast at the Minnesota Nice Cafe, or have a nice dinner at Tutto Bene, which features Italian and vegan options. Before an early morning fishing excursion, check out Dunn Brothers Coffee for an excellent dark roast and a large menu of breakfast options and lakeside views.
Bemidji has many activities if you need to get out of the cabin, including Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox where you can visit Paul and Babe at the waterfront park and take a family photo. The visitor center has lots of oversized items that Paul might have used on its walls and the playground sings, which is unique. You can walk the streets of the quaint town and look at all of the art projects and murals the city has designed for tourists.
After your photo op you can head to Lake Bemidji State Park for a lovely afternoon at the lake. Lake Bemidji has plenty of parking, restrooms, and easy access to the Paul Bunyan trail. There is a flat, paved bike path with a nice tree canopy and frequent glimpses of the lake. Finish off your day at the 209 Bar for a Swiss Mushroom Burger and the Walleye Tacos — a local favorite!
Make sure to stop by the grocery store before leaving town and heading back to Pinewood, where you can soak in the views of the stars at your luxurious cabin. Enjoy your remote stay in Pinewood. We look forward to seeing you!
